Life-threatening injuries can happen anywhere. Developed by the American College of Surgeons, this national campaign empowers everyday citizens to act as immediate responders. You will learn the critical skills needed to bridge the gap until professional medical help arrives, including wound packing, applying direct pressure, and properly using tourniquets and chest seals.

In high-pressure situations, muscle memory is key. The ASHER program engages the community in proactive preparation using the RUN, HIDE, FIGHT framework. This training provides a clear roadmap for responding and staying safe during an active shooter situation.

Equip yourself with the skills to save a life in a cardiac or first-aid emergency. Led by certified instructors, this hands-on course covers adult, child, and infant CPR, the safe use of an AED, and first aid for burns, fractures, and choking. Upon completion, participants receive a two-year certification.

With the rise of fentanyl-related emergencies, being prepared to respond to an opioid overdose is a vital public health skill. Led by experts, this session teaches you how to recognize the symptoms of an overdose, administer naloxone nasal spray, and coordinate with emergency services.

The BTAM approach is a proven strategy used by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to manage potential threats in schools and workplaces. This training helps our community build a more vigilant and supportive environment by teaching participants how to recognize and report concerning early behaviors.

For our campus emergency personnel, coordination is the foundation of a successful response. Managed by FEMA, these courses ensure that our response teams are using a unified, nationwide approach to incident management. This specialized training is essential for a seamless, effective response to any large-scale campus emergency.

AU’s Medical Reserve Corps is a vital volunteer unit that supports local health and safety needs during crises. With over 400 volunteers already trained, the AU MRC supports medical centers, shelters, and call centers. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds; you do not need a healthcare degree to make a difference.

Depending on your specific role at the university, specialized safety training may be required to keep our research and clinical spaces running smoothly. Our EHS department offers essential certification in areas such as Chemical and Radiation Safety, Fire Extinguisher Usage, Biosafety, and Industrial Hygiene.
