Division of Laboratory Animal Services

The Division of Laboratory Animal Services at 麻豆官网首页入口 is a service organization, which facilitates the research and teaching mission of the University by meeting the animal research needs of the research community while concurrently providing for the safe and ethical treatment of research animals.

Our emphasis on customer service is demonstrated by providing high quality animal care and research support in a timely manner while being courteous, professional, and responsive to our customers. 

We maintain a centralized animal care program with administrative management of 6 on-campus and 1 off-campus animal facilities. We report to the Vice President of Research, consult, and collaborate with the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. The animal use program is accredited by , a Registered Research Facility with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA No. 57-R-0002), and has an Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare Assurance number.

Our team offers advanced training in a variety of blood collection and injection methods, as well as other common procedures performed with rodents

Our team provides comprehensive support for anesthesia, analgesia, and a wide range of procedures for both rodent and large animal models

Our team coordinates the export of rodents to external institutions

Our team manages the import of rodents from non-approved vendors or institutions

DLAS manages review and testing of biologicals used in animals

The Division of Laboratory Animal Services (DLAS) at 麻豆官网首页入口 provides comprehensive veterinary oversight in accordance with all applicable federal regulations, institutional policies, and AAALAC International accreditation standards. Our veterinary team ensures the health and well-being of all research animals through a multifaceted care program that includes:

  • Daily Monitoring: All animals are observed for health, behavior, and feed/water status every day of the year, including weekends and holidays.
  • Health Surveillance: DLAS maintains a rigorous health surveillance program that does not utilize live sentinel animals, thereby ensuring colony health while minimizing animal use.
  • Veterinary Oversight: Veterinary staff provide routine clinical care, preventative medicine, and consultation with research personnel to support humane and scientifically sound animal use.
  • Emergency Care: Veterinary support is available at all times, including nights, weekends and holidays to respond promptly to emergent clinical needs.
