Jags Abroad Photo Contest

Did you capture some incredible moments while on your Study Abroad or Away program?

If YES, the Jags Abroad Photo Contest is your chance to share your adventures with the AU community!

The 2025 Jags Abroad Photo Contest is open and accepting entries until July 25, 2025: students who went on a study abroad and away program during the 2024-2025 academic year are eligible to submit photos. Prizes are awarded for select photos, which are then featured in our office, marketing materials and social media accounts.

Contest Rules Photo Ethics Submit Your Photo Past Winners

Contest Rules & Guidelines

  • One photo submission per entrant per category - must be current AU student. Categories include Culture, Landscape/Nature, and Jaguars Abroad. 
  • Entrant must have participated in a study abroad or study away program during the 2024 - 2025 academic year. Independent student travelers who registered with our office are eligible.
  • Photos must be original work taken during the study abroad/away program, either in the host country(s) or in other places traveled during the program.
  • No use or showcase of alcohol or drugs displayed in your photo.

 

Technical requirements

  • File format must be PNG or JPG. iPhone photos must be converted from HEIC. 
  • Submit original, high-resolution digital files — photos downloaded from social media do not meet display & print quality standards.

Photo Ethics

The photos submitted to this contest will be made viewable to the public and are not limited to just the AU campus, but could be shared online to the public, with the host institution, and/or the local community where a photo was taken. It is important to consider the following when selecting photos for this contest: 

Is your photo respectful of the subject(s) and host country?

Does your photo promote any negative stereotypes?

Did your subject(s) consent to the photo being taken and shared? Minors (children under 18) must have consent from their parent/guardian.

Photo Submissions

Submission deadlines

July 25, 2025:  eligible program terms include Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025

Terms and conditions

In submitting photos to the contest, you agree that AU Study Abroad may use them for promotional purposes without further permission, conditions or compensation. Contest organizers reserve the right to disqualify entries that do not conform to the stated guidelines and ethics.

Judging

To select the top entries, we follow a two-step voting process:

1. Committee Selection

The Institutional Study Abroad Committee (ISAC) will review all submissions and vote for their top two photos in each of the following categories:

  • Culture
  • Landscape/Nature
  • Jags Abroad

Selection Criteria

  • Artistic merit (subject, composition, framing, etc.)
  • Technical merit (clarity, focus, lighting, etc.).
  • Representation of the learning/travel experience.
  • Sensitivity toward the host culture.

2. Instagram Story Polls

The top photos from each category, as selected by ISAC, will then be shared on the . Our followers will vote for their favorite photo in each category through Instagram story polls.

Prizes

Winners in each category will receive a $100 award, which can be applied toward an Âé¶¹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú faculty-led study abroad program or distributed to their financial aid account. Winning photos may be displayed in marketing material, social media, and around Âé¶¹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú campuses.
