Outstanding Graduate Student

Jamani Barker Garner

 

Outstanding Graduate Student Award was presented to Jamani Barker Garner.

The recipient of this award is chosen based on various accomplishments, which include: exceptional academic performance, involvement in research, taking an active role in the M.S. program, and potential for future success.

Outstanding Undergraduate Student

Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award was presented to Niasia Turman and Dylan MacLean.

To receive this award, students need to have at least a 3.0 GPA, to be actively involved in research, and to participate in an extracurricular activity.

 


 

Academic Achievement Award in Psychology

Academic Achievement Award was presented to Laramie Prince.

This award is being presented to the graduating senior who earned the highest overall grade point average.

Kenneth & Mamie Phipps Clark Mentoring Award

Kenneth & Mamie Phipps Clark Mentoring Award was presented to Jamani Barker Garner and Elinita Pollard.

"The Clarks were the first African-Americans to obtain their doctoral degrees in psychology from Columbia University. They were influential to the Civil Rights movement and their expertise allowed them to testify as expert witnesses in several school desegregation cases, including Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954.  Kenneth Clark was the first African-American to be president of American Psychological Association and the first African-American appointed to the New York State Board of Regents."

To be eligible for the award, students must identify as an ethnic minority or first generation college student, have declared psychology as their major, have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, and taken at least three psychology courses.
