Sickle Cell Center

Years 1 & 2

Consists of wide clinical experiences in both inpatient and outpatient hematology, medical oncology, consultative services, and blood and marrow transplantation.

Year 3

Fellows choose a clinical investigator/researcher track or a clinician track.

All Years

Fellows engage in two weekly half-day continuity clinics:

  • A "Fellows Clinic" where trainees "own" their patients and manage them through diagnosis, treatment, maintenance, relapse and surveillance of their primary disorders for the duration they are in training

  • A weekly half-day subspecialty clinic divided into 3-month tumor-specific blocks designed to increase tumor-specific exposure while ensuring long enough follow up to manage patients throughout evaluation and initiation and maintenance of chemotherapy.

The main aims of the program are: to provide comprehensive training in the evaluation and management of patients with cancer, leading to board eligibility in the subspecialties of Medical Oncology and Hematology; and to provide trainees with the option of tumor-specific clinical training or a path to clinician-scientist/translational-researcher based on their chosen career path in clinical or academic medicine.
