Scholarly Project

Course Description: Students are required to complete a 4 week Scholarly Project during their clinical phase prior to graduation. The student will submit a scholarly project add form to the curriculum office & the Scholarly Project Director and will set up the project with the director as liaison. The research mentor for this project must be a full-time faculty member, clinical and/or basic science, at the Medical College of Georgia. Qualified clinicians and basic science investigators outside the Medical College of Georgia community may serve as a research mentor; however, they must be sponsored by a full-time faculty member at the Medical College of Georgia whose expertise lies in the field of the research work being performed. The sponsor-arrangement requires approval by the Director, Medical Scholarly Research Project Program. Students will be required to complete several training modules and other requirements prior to the start of their scholarly project course. Students may extend the length of their scholarly project for graduation credit for a maximum of 12 weeks. The Scholarly Project Course extension weeks count toward the advanced clinical requirements in the enrichment phase (8 weeks of advanced clinical electives required for graduation).

USMLE Step Prep Selective

Months Offered: 2 weeks in Spring Semester (JAN) after Clerkships

Course Description: This is a post-clerkship USMLE Step 1 and/or Step 2 CK Preparation Course to help students develop necessary knowledge of the basic and clinical sciences to be successful on USMLE Step 1 and/or Step 2 CK. Students will take a CBSE exam on the first day of the block and will be advised by OAA faculty as to their study and retake schedule within the course. Students will study for and pass USMLE Step 1 (if they have not passed it in the clerkship phase) and will retake their shelf exams during this course as a method of preparation for Step 2 CK.
