Adult Ambulatory Medicine

Course Description: this course is designed to provide students with a broad exposure to the clinical problems, settings and skills which make up the ambulatory practice of Internal Medicine; Objectives: Knowledge - Understand the pathophysiology, diagnosis and evidence-based management of common problems encountered in outpatient Medicine. Learn about sub-specialty management of specific referred problems. Understand appropriate utilization of resources as a part of medical practice; Skills: Perform a problem-focused history and physical examination. Counsel patients regarding health behaviors. Manage multiple medications for complex patients. Coordinate care among several treating physicians; Activities: General Internal Medicine clinics. Sub-specialty clinics. Ambulatory cases and questions. Evidence-based problem write-up. Observed history and physical examinations.

Pediatric Ambulatory Medicine

Course Description: The PEDS Ambulatory Selective will prepare students for care of pediatric patients in an ambulatory setting. Students will work in an outpatient setting supervised by a general pediatrician or pediatric sub-specialist. Students will independently obtain history and exam, document encounters in the medical record, communicate directly with patients, and give appropriate anticipatory guidance to patients. Students will learn about billing and coding, insurance issues, and meaningful use.

Students will learn about billing and coding, insurance issues, and meaningful use.
