Welcome to Anesthesiology Residency Program at MCG.
We are proud that we were the first academic anesthesiology department to be established
in the South. Back in 1937, when our department was founded, we had one faculty member:
our Chair, Dr. Perry Volpitto. We slowly grew from one or two residents in the 1940s
to the 48 we have today.
Our mid-sized program accepts 12 categorical residents per year from diverse backgrounds. We
are looking for residents who are team players, self-motivated, and enthusiastic.
When you enter our program, you鈥檒l join a team of physician anesthesiologists dedicated
to excellence in education and patient care.
is a Level 1 trauma and stroke center with separate facilities for adults and children
that generate sufficient volume to ensure exposure to varied clinical pathologies.
Most of your clinical anesthesiology years are spent at AUMC. Our dedicated, highly
accomplished, and diverse faculty will provide hands-on instruction and oversight
and prepare you for independent practice.
The health and wellness of our residents is also a priority. Our Resident Wellness
Committee offers opportunities to socialize outside of work so we can get to know
each other鈥檚 families, enjoy local and regional entertainment, and have a real connection
to each other.
