Application Qualifications

  • Must be a Georgia resident per Board of Regents designation. Must have lived in the state of Georgia for a minimum of 5 years and must have graduated from a Georgia High School. 
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of entry into the program.
  • Provide documentation of status as a disadvantaged/underserved applicant: 

The definition of disadvantaged includes economic disadvantage, resident of a GA county defined as medically underserved or rural, attendance at a Title 1 High School, or first-generation college student:   

    • Resident of a medically underserved Georgia county or rural Georgia county
    • The definition of economically disadvantaged is financial eligibility for Pell grant or an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) up to $8000, calculated from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), unless other evidence of economic disadvantaged status exists.  Applicants must demonstrate their eligibility for fee assistance.
    • Graduation from a GA high school designated as Title 1.
    • First-generation college student (first generation is defined as a student whose parents/guardians have not completed a bachelor鈥檚 degree in the United States education system.  Parents/Guardians cannot hold an advanced or professional degreein any educational system.)

AIM Participation (Undergraduate)

  • Attend the student鈥檚 home undergraduate school on a full-time basis. A student鈥檚 鈥渉ome undergraduate school鈥� is the general academic teaching institution of higher education that the student was enrolled in at the time of admission into the AIM Program. 
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative and a Biology-Chemistry-Physics-Math (BCPM) GPA of 3.3. 
  • Take courses that lead to a particular degree with enough semester hours to graduate in four years, unless a longer course of study is pre-approved by the AIM Committee. Except for credit earned prior to the student鈥檚 initial enrollment in the home undergraduate school, all medical school prerequisite courses must be taken at the student鈥檚 home undergraduate school and must be passed with a grade of 鈥淐鈥� or better.  
  • Fully participate in MCAT preparation during Junior year (and Senior year if applicable) as prescribed by the AIM Committee.  
  • Take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) no later than the spring of the junior year or as directed by the AIM Committee.  
  • Successfully complete the two summer internships after each year (sophomore and junior) of undergraduate study.  
  • Receive satisfactory evaluations by faculty overseeing summer internships  
  • Meet with the MCG AIM Director or MCG AIM advisor at least once per month during the academic year as instructed by the MCG AIM Program. Attend virtual sessions as provided by the AIM program  
  • Provide updated transcripts of all undergraduate courses and grades each semester to the MCG AIM Director  
  • Exhibit intelligence, integrity, and personal and emotional characteristics that are considered necessary for the student to become an effective physician.  
  • Participate in surveys and evaluations related to AIM. 
  • Maintain requirements to be employed as a medical resident, including but not limited to being authorized to work in the United States, passing criminal history checks, and complying with immunization requirements.  
  • Must be able to perform a medical school鈥檚 essential functions (either with or without reasonable accommodations) required to complete the generalist medical school curriculum.

AIM Participation (Medical Student)

Participation in AIM (Medical Student) 

  • Students must remain in good academic standing as defined by MCG
  • Students must meet with their academic advisor and AIM Director at least once per semester
  • Probation and Dismissal
    • A student who fails to meet the above academic requirements or codes of conduct may be:
  • Placed on probation with appropriate advising
      • Terminated from the program at the end of the semester during which standards were not met.

Matriculation

Organic Chemistry One semester of Organic Chemistry with lab 4  
*Biochemistry One semester of Biochemistry 3 - 4  Lab not required
Physics Two semesters of Physics with lab 8  
Statistics One semester 4 The course should be taught in the Mathematics or Statistics department
English Two semesters 6 One semester can be a Humanities course

Recommended Courses: Immunology, Medical Terminology, Genetics, and Cellular and Molecular Biology.

* Course may be taught in the Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry department.  Must be a course that is applied toward a baccalaureate degree in a science field and cannot be an introductory course

All prerequisites must be passed with a grade of at least 鈥淐鈥�. All medical school prerequisite courses must be taken at the home undergraduate institution, except for credits earned before the student鈥檚 initial enrollment in the home undergraduate institution.

 

Non-Academic 

AIM scholars qualify for matriculation if they: 

  • Receive satisfactory evaluations through interviews, longitudinal programming, and summer internships.
  • Receive a competitive multiple mini-interview (MMI) score consistent with MCG matriculants
  • Receive satisfactory evaluations of additional factors, including professionalism, integrity, and personal and emotional characteristics that are considered necessary for the student to become an effective physician: evaluation of core pre-medical competencies. 
  • Complete a bachelor鈥檚 degree as a full-time (four-year) undergraduate student. 
  • Participate in a second AIM internship after the Junior year of an undergraduate degree (if applicable)
  • Maintain a minimum overall GPA and BCPM GPA of 3.3 
  • Take the MCAT by the date designated by the AIM Committee  
  • Attain a minimum MCAT score of 500, with a score > 124 on each section.
  • The AIM Committee may consider students who do not meet the minimum GPA and MCAT requirements on an individual basis for admission into medical school. 
    • Participate in the MCG pre-matriculation program if designated by the AIM Director. 

MCG Early Assurance

The AIM Selection Committee will invite qualified AIM participants to complete an AMCAS application for early assurance to MCG during the summer II internship. Students may only apply to MCG at this time. 

  • MCG will interview qualified AIM participants during the admissions interview cycle before matriculation 
  • All interviews will be completed by an established deadline, and evaluations must be consistent with MCG matriculants
  • All AIM participants are subjected to a full review by the admissions committee
  • Accepted students will matriculate only at MCG 

Accepted students must maintain appropriate conduct and professionalism. If you are charged with, convicted of, or plead guilty or no contest to a felony or misdemeanor crime, you must inform鈥痶he AIM Director immediately. Any charges will be subject to review by the AIM Committee and may result in dismissal from the AIM Program.
