Assurance in Medicine Pathway - Application Criteria

  • Be enrolled full-time at a participating university at the time of application to the program and throughout the program duration.  
  • Twenty-seven (27) semester hours of undergraduate credit must be completed in the first year of college after graduation from high school as a full-time student at an institution of higher education (no more than three semester hours of AP credit can be counted towards the 27-hour requirement).   
  • Apply to the program no later than the student's third year of college after graduation from high school, while enrolled at an AIM participating university, and within the stated application deadline. 
  • Must have completed two semesters of Biology with lab with a grade of 鈥淐鈥 or better. 
  • Must have completed two semesters of General Chemistry (with associated labs) with a grade of "C" or better. 
  • Must be able to complete one semester of Organic Chemistry (with associated labs) before attending the first summer program internship.  
  • Applicants must have the ability to participate in two summer internships as designated by MCG.  
  • A 3.3 grade point average overall and 3.3 grade point average in Biology-Chemistry-Physics-Math (BCPM) courses is recommended; preference will be given to those achieving higher scores. Grades from all courses completed before the final selection meeting will be considered. 
  • Provide copies of SAT or ACT scores if taken previously.  
  • Remain in good standing at the undergraduate school in which the student enrolls.  This includes complying with the school鈥檚 student code of conduct.

Additional Requirements

  • Non-academic, personal factors such as professionalism, motivation, maturity, integrity, interpersonal communication, service to others, demonstrated commitment to study medicine, and practice in Georgia will be considered by the AIM selection committee.  
  • Meet requirements for matriculation into medical school, which includes a criminal history background check and drug screen, as well as compliance with immunization and technical standard requirements. 
  • Meet requirements to be employed as a medical resident, including but not limited to being authorized to work in the United States, passing criminal history checks, and complying with immunization requirements.  
  • Must be able to perform a medical school鈥檚 essential functions (either with or without reasonable accommodations) required to complete the MCG medical school curriculum.  
  • Must commit to Early Assurance with MCG if accepted into the AIM program and successfully meet requirements for matriculation. 
  • Must complete the MCG multiple mini-interview (MMI) during the designated timeframe and demonstrate performance consistent with MCG matriculants.  
  • Any exception to the above requirements is subject to review by the MCG AIM Committee and handled on a case-by-case basis. 

Demonstrate core competencies that depict the standards expected of applicants accepted to the program and medical school.  

These personal characteristics are based on the AAMC Core pre-med competencies: 

      • Professional competencies: commitment to learning, cultural awareness, cultural humility, empathy and compassion, ethical responsibility to self and others, interpersonal skills, oral communication, reliability and dependability, resilience and adaptability, service orientation, teamwork and collaboration. 
      • Thinking and Reasoning Competencies: critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, scientific inquiry, and written communication.  
      • Science Competencies: Human behavior and living systems.
