Academic Program Review

PROGRAM REVIEW PROCESSIMPORTANT LINKS

Per policy of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, all academic programs must be periodically reviewed. This review must involve both qualitative and quantitative data, and decisions made must be based on evidence.

All program reviews must include an evaluation of the program's viability, productivity, and quality according to the guidelines defined by the institution. Specifically, the accreditation staff provides the following services:

  • Tracks a multi-year program review schedule to document key historic dates, upcoming dates, contacts, and other pertinent information.
  • Manages the program review process by supporting academic programs under review and facilitating the identification of actions and decisions resulting from program reviews.
  • Submits program review documentation to the University System of Georgia.

Program Review Process

Kick-off Meeting Graphic

Kick-Off Meeting

The Academic Program Review process begins in the Fall with a Kick-Off meeting for the college, department, and program leadership; the Provost and other Academic Affairs leadership; and Institutional Effectiveness staff. This meeting provides a broad introduction to the process and the expectations of the programs.

Step 1

Orientation Meetings

Next, college-specific orientations are held in the weeks following the Kick-Off to provide the programs with the program review reporting template, the data profile prepared by Institutional Research, and any additional support. During the next few months, accreditation staff check in with the program leadership as needed to assist in completing the program review template.

Step 2

Finally, a Close-Out meeting is held with the Provost, Academic Affairs leadership, and the program leadership to discuss the viability, productivity, and quality evaluations made by the program.
