Teaching Interests

Dr. Hickman鈥檚 teaching focuses on preparing reflective, ethical, and effective educational leaders who are capable of translating theory into meaningful practice across diverse school and district settings. His instructional approach emphasizes applied, inquiry-based learning aligned with Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) leadership standards. Through authentic field experiences, data-informed decision-making, and structured opportunities for self-reflection, Dr. Hickman seeks to cultivate leaders who demonstrate strong self-efficacy and a commitment to continuous organizational improvement.

Research Interests

Dr. Hickman鈥檚 research explores the multidimensional nature of educational leadership efficacy, with particular attention to rural and underrepresented educational contexts. His work investigates how leader self-efficacy, mental health, and contextual variables intersect to influence leadership decision-making, organizational culture, and student outcomes. By integrating quantitative and qualitative methodologies, Dr. Hickman鈥檚 research contributes to the understanding of how leader efficacy can inform leadership preparation, professional learning, and system-level policy development.
